چکیده

In the paper we consider a graph model of message passing processes and present a method verification of message passing processes. The method is illustrated by an example of a verification of sliding window protocol.

An Improved Token-Based and Starvation Free Distributed Mutual Exclusion Algorithm

Distributed mutual exclusion is a fundamental problem of distributed systems that coordinates the access to critical shared resources. It concerns with how the various distributed processes access to the shared resources in a mutually exclusive manner. This paper presents fully distributed improved token based mutual exclusion algorithm for distributed system. In this algorithm, a process which...

Gates: A graphical notation for mixture models

Gates are a new notation for representing mixture models and context-sensitive independence in factor graphs. Factor graphs provide a natural representation for message-passing algorithms, such as expectation propagation. However, message passing in mixture models is not well captured by factor graphs unless the entire mixture is represented by one factor, because the message equations have a c...

MAP Estimation, Message Passing, and Perfect Graphs

Efficiently finding the maximum a posteriori (MAP) configuration of a graphical model is an important problem which is often implemented using message passing algorithms. The optimality of such algorithms is only well established for singly-connected graphs and other limited settings. This article extends the set of graphs where MAP estimation is in P and where message passing recovers the exac...

The deterministic Kermack-McKendrick model bounds the general stochastic epidemic

We prove that, for Poisson transmission and recovery processes, the classic Susceptible → Infected → Recovered (SIR) epidemic model of Kermack and McKendrick provides, for any given time t > 0, a strict lower bound on the expected number of suscpetibles and a strict upper bound on the expected number of recoveries in the general stochastic SIR epidemic. The proof is based on the recent message ...

Factor Graph Decoding for Speech Presence Probability Estimation

This paper is concerned with speech presence probability estimation employing an explicit model of the temporal and spectral correlations of speech. An undirected graphical model is introduced, based on a Factor Graph formulation. It is shown that this undirected model cures some of the theoretical issues of an earlier directed graphical model. Furthermore, we formulate a message passing infere...
